What’s wrong with the Habs these days?

The hockey season is currently in full swing, about a quarter of the way completed.  At this point, we are starting to have a firmer understanding on where teams stand – which teams are serious contenders and which teams are going to end up getting a high draft pick this summer.  Of course, between the top and the bottom are many teams dog-fighting to work their way up in the standings and ultimately, claim one of the playoff spots.  One of those teams, my favorite team in fact, is the Montreal Canadiens!

The Canadiens started off the year really strong, with all of their best players performing very well.  As of late however, they have started to lose several games and currently are sitting right outside of the playoff picture.  It’s still really early, but every win counts, and there are some real problems with the roster.  It all starts with the coach, Michel Therrien, and their star defenseman, PK Subban!  PK Subban won the Norris trophy last year for being the best defenseman in the league, yet for some reason, Therrien does not seem to trust him in difficult situations.  My opinion is that if Subban is the Habs best player, he should be playing in all situations to give them the best chance at winning, yet Therrien insists on limiting his minutes!

Elsewhere, there has been a real lack of consistency amongst the forwards.  It seems that only one forward line at a time can stay hot and put up points.  But in order to win the Stanley Cup, everyone needs to contribute throughout the lineup.

I’m really hoping that the Canadiens can get themselves organized and start winning some games.  I can’t take a year where they miss the playoffs, it’s not good for my mental health!!!
